You will need a 9-inch spring-form pan and the ingredients listed at the right.

Preheat oven to 300° F (149° C).

Combine the chocolate wafer crumbs and the melted butter, making a moistened cookie paste.  Press the mixture firmly on the bottom of the spring-form pan.  Set aside

Melt the semi-sweet chocolate pieces over very low heat using a double boiler, stirring constantly until the chocolate is melted and smooth.

In a large bowl of an electric mixer, beat the softened cream cheese until fluffy.  Gradually beat in the sweetened condensed milk.  Add the melted chocolate and continue beating until smooth.  Add the eggs, cornstarch and vanilla extract, mixing well until smooth again.

Pour the mixture into the prepared spring-form pan.  Bake 55 minutes or until fully set.

Remove the cheesecake and allow to cool for at least 1 hour and then place in a refrigerator to chill.

Top with cherry pie filling and serve chilled.
